Located in Boulouparis on the heights of Ouitchambo , on a 400-hectare property between mountain ranges, forests, waterfalls and river, the Ecogîte de la Ouatchoue offers you a true haven of nature to recharge , rest or immerse yourself in the Caledonian bush with various activities.

The concept? A stay surrounded by nature in a vast, self-sufficient house built with eco-friendly materials, nestled in a valley just 1 hour and 15 minutes from Nouméa. The nearest neighbors are 6 km from the cottage. Built entirely of wood and raised on stilts, the 560 m² two-story house is oriented to maximize solar energy production. The Ecogîte de la Ouatchoue goes to great lengths to address both ecological and practical concerns: wood heating, solar photovoltaic and thermal energy, waste sorting, composting toilets, and wastewater reuse.

All rooms are carefully equipped with sheets and duvets. adapted to the cool temperatures of the site, even in summer air conditioning is unnecessary.

Alexis, originally from New Caledonia and Réunion, trained in Australia, where he worked for 15 years in restaurants from Sydney to Cairns. He then spent 9 years in Réunion, perfecting his passion for Réunion cuisine.
Having recently returned to New Caledonia, he invites you to discover his local, Réunion and international specialties.
We now offer continental breakfasts on Saturday and Sunday mornings (included in the accommodation price) as well as meals on Friday and Saturday evenings, as an option at XPF2,900.
It is also possible to organize meals for groups, by reservation, outside of these days.

At the Ecogîte de la Ouatchoue you will find: an orchard, 12 crayfish breeding ponds, a real water garden and natural setting for the fauna and the forest, a pond filled with water lilies and koi carp, as well as a mini farm, where you can meet chickens, peacocks and ducks.

We welcome groups for weddings, birthdays, seminars, workshops, etc. If your group exceeds the gîte's capacity, camping is available for 1500 CHF per person. Music is permitted, with the only limitation being electricity consumption, as we operate on a solar-powered battery system. Therefore, you will need to connect your equipment to a generator for the evening. Please contact us for more information.

The cottage is composed as follows:

- a large 150m2 common room with a library and a foosball table, as well as a large table that can seat 26 people,

- aA fully equipped communal kitchen of 55m2 (cooktop, gas oven, pans, pots, dishes, cutlery, spices, herbs, oils and vinegars, cleaning essentials...)

- five bedrooms, two shared bathrooms , three showers, three toilets, a terrace and a wood-fired oven in the garden as well as a covered BBQ.

A full breakfast is available upon reservation for 1,500 FRS (it is included for an overnight stay booked on Friday or Saturday).

The track leading to the gîte is 5.5km long; a 4x4 vehicle is recommended, although not mandatory. The gîte is listed on Maps.me.

Swimming : 100 meters from the cottage, you will discover a pool of water along the Ouatchoue river in which you can swim.

Hiking From the gîte, you have access to several hiking trails:

▪ the Ouitchambo Peak which you can do in about 3 hours round trip;
▪ the waterfall trail, a 2-hour loop combining forest, swimming in the waterfall's pools and a viewpoint;
▪ viewpoint 1 which you can do in about 2 hours round trip;

▪ viewpoint 3 which you can do in about 2h40 round trip;

▪ Mont-Do which you can do in about 5 hours round trip;

▪ The GR3 Oui-Poin: 11-hour trek one way (2 large refuges are available with toilets, BBQ, dormitory, dining room)

Hunting is a possible activity at the Ecogîte de la Ouatchoue. Certain conditions apply; please contact us for full details.

Crayfish fishing is a unique activity in New Caledonia. When it's the season, we provide you with traps and bait. The sale is by weight after sorting.

The nearby beaches are those of Port Ouenghi beach, Ouano and Bouraké.

Day access to the site for outsiders (access to the facilities of the gîte, the river, the hiking trails...): 1,500 francs/person.

Car park for hikers on the GR Nassirah-Ouipoin: 500 francs per car per day.

Access for day hikes for 500 FRS per person.
